If your practice is missing from a particular local search, first establish what you are measuring. Results can vary with the query and the searcher’s location. One search on your own phone is a useful observation, not a complete visibility report.

Check profile ownership and accuracy

Find your business on Google Maps and confirm that the profile represents the right business. If you are authorised to manage it, review ownership and verification. Existing information may have been added by other people.

Check the business name, contact details, opening hours, location or service area and website link. A missing or inaccurate field is a concrete issue to resolve.

Review the category and services

Select categories that accurately describe the business. Do not add services you do not provide or locations you do not operate. Your profile and website should give a consistent account of the practice.

Understand the limits of local ranking

Google describes local results in terms of relevance, distance and prominence. Complete information helps explain the business, but there is no payment or request that guarantees a better local ranking.

Distance is especially important when judging a result. A search from a distant suburb is not the same test as one from your actual catchment.

Use your website to support the profile

Publish clear service information, accurate contact details and the areas you genuinely serve. If you operate multiple real locations, each should have useful, distinct information. Avoid creating pages that simply swap suburb names.

Keep reviews authentic and follow the platform’s policies. Regulated practices should also review their professional obligations before requesting or republishing endorsements.

Record a baseline before making changes

Save the queries, locations and dates used in your review. Where available, combine Business Profile performance data with Search Console and enquiry records. Measure over time instead of treating one search position as the whole result.
