A website quote is only useful when the scope is clear. Five brochure pages, a portfolio with copywriting and a booking integration are different jobs. Compare the deliverables before comparing the total.

Start with the work included

Ask who is responsible for design, copy, images and content entry. Check the page count, revision rounds, enquiry forms, integrations and mobile layouts. A short quote that omits these decisions leaves room for disagreement.

The technology matters too. Ask why the proposed approach suits your business and what it requires after launch. A template can be appropriate for a limited brief; a custom build should explain what the additional work achieves.

A concrete pricing example

Baken’s published website packages are R19,500 for Launch Website, R32,500 for Growth Website and from R49,500 for Authority Website. These are our prices, not a survey of the South African market.

  • Launch Website includes up to five pages and suits a focused business presence.
  • Growth Website includes up to ten core pages and Search Foundation for the agreed core pages. Copywriting is optional at R950 per page.
  • Authority Website is scoped for requirements such as bookings, payments or an advanced portfolio.

The first month of the relevant care plan is included. Compare the full inclusions and timelines before selecting a package.

Work out the first year

Include ongoing hosting, maintenance and any third-party fees. For a Baken Launch Website with Care Essential, the example is R19,500 + (11 × R1,250) = R33,250 for the build and care across the first 12 months. The first care month is already included.

That example excludes separately scoped extras. Booking software, payment processing, additional copy or photography can change the total. Ask which costs are included, which are recurring and which are billed by another provider.

Make ownership explicit

Agree who controls the domain, hosting and accounts, what transfers on final payment and what happens if the relationship ends. A low headline price can be a poor comparison if it excludes a usable handover.

Finally, ask what your team must supply and when. Content decisions and approvals affect the schedule. A useful quotation makes those responsibilities visible alongside the price.
